A makeover to a children's play park has been completed more than a year after plans were first announced.

Medway Council has carried out a number of improvements to Luton Millennium Green in Albany Road, Chatham.

It now boasts two different areas for youngsters to play in - one for tots and another for juniors - following a host of new play equipment being installed.

The former now features a play tunnel, slide, stepping logs, a balance beam and swing.

Meanwhile, the junior area now has a new roundabout, swing sets, a see-saw and a climbing frame.

Both play areas were officially opened by the Mayor of Medway, Cllr Nina Gurung (Lab), on Wednesday (February 21).

As well as the new play areas, the park has also had vegetation cut back to improve sight lines for users.

Improvements to its footpaths, more seating, plus the addition of multiple trees are some more of the other changes which have taken place.

The refurbishment comes following a consultation held in October 2022 when residents were asked what changes they would like to see made to the site.

Cllr Simon Curry (Lab) says it is important attention is given to green spaces across the area.

Medway Council’s portfolio holder for strategic regeneration and climate change explained: "It is brilliant we have been able to make these improvements to Luton Millennium Green.

"As a council, we know how important it is for Medway’s young people to have fun places to play where they can be active and healthy.

"We also know being active and out in nature has huge benefits to both the physical and mental health for residents of all ages, which is why we are committed to improving our green spaces across Medway.”

The work has been funded through the Levelling Up Park Fund (LUPF) and Section 106 contributions from developers.

Medway Council was asked for the cost.
