An air ambulance landed on a busy recreation ground after a teenager suffered a cardiac arrest.

The 17-year-old boy was taken to hospital by ambulance after the incident at about 3.50pm yesterday, an air ambulance spokesman said.

The Kent Air Ambulance landed on Beechings Way recreation ground, in Twydall, Gillingham, to assist ground crews.

The helicopter attracted a large crowd and had left again by 5pm.

Witnesses also saw at least six police and ambulance vehicles.

The teenager's current condition has not been released.

It is thought the incident happened at a home in Thornham Road.

Police denied initial social media rumours that the incident was a stabbing or an assault.

However, they declined to state the nature of the incident, saying it was a "private family matter", and said no one had been taken to hospital.

An ambulance service spokesman added he would not "comment on emergencies at private addresses".
