Police are appealing for witnesses following a reported burglary in Twydall.

During the incident in Rolvenden Avenue last Wednesday, the disabled resident left the house to pop to a local shop.

Due to his disability, he left the side gates of his back garden open. When he returned, a man entered the garden and asked to speak to somebody in the house.

The victim went inside to fetch a relative, leaving the man in the garden. But by the time he returned with his daughter, the man had disappeared. The victims searched the house and realised a purse, which contained £200 in cash, had been taken.

It is believed to have happened between 2.15pm and 2.25pm.

Officers have released a description of the offender, who is said to be white, approximately 25-years-old, with dark short hair. He was smartly dressed, with a long-sleeved top.

Investigating officer, DC Sasha Monck, investigating officer, said: “We have had a few reports of burglaries in this area. We are in the process of investigating each incident and are not necessarily linking them at this stage, but I am very keen to hear from anybody who may recognise the description of the offender or who has any information at all.

"I believe the burglar preyed on a man he recognised to be vulnerable and we are taking this incident extremely seriously.”
