A man has been arrested after a primary school voiced concerns about so-called 'stranger danger' in a nearby park.

Writing in a newsletter, the head of St Benedict's Roman Catholic school in Lordswood warned parents about "suspicious-looking men hovering and lurking in the park and trying to offer money to children".

Barbara Salamonczyk said she had also informed police.

Officers arrested one man in connection with the alleged behaviour and he was in custody this afternoon being questioned.

A police spokeman said: "We received reports of a man acting suspiciously in the Lordswood area and following enquiries a 47-year-old man from Chatham has been arrested on suspicion of harassment and is in police custody."

The head told parents: "Should you see anybody behaving in a suspicious manner, please do not hesitate to let me know or phone the police."
