A 22-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of wasting police time after emergency crews launched a rescue operation to save a man from a river.
Police were called to Valetta Way, off the esplanade in Rochester at 12.45am following reports a man had jumped into the River Medway.
Officers were assisted by the coastguard, Kent Search and Rescue and members of the Kent Fire and Rescue Service.
Three fire engines, two boats and two water safety units were sent to the scene.
A helicopter could be seen circling the Borstal area as emergency crews carried out a search of the area.
A 22-year-old was later found at an address in Rochester around 6am and was arrested on suspicion of breaching a restraining order and wasting police time.
Spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service Jo Harfleet said crews were called shortly after 1am this morning to reports of a man who was believed to have fallen in the river.
She said: "A full search of the river and surrounding area was carried out by land, water and air.
"The man was later found safe and well at home."
He was taken into custody but later released on bail pending further inquiries.
