Police called to Chatham Railway Station after reports of a man in distress

Police were called out to a railway station this afternoon after concerns for the welfare of a man on the platform.

Officers from Kent Police assisted colleagues from the British Transport Police (BTP) at Chatham Railway Station at about 2pm after the man was seen sitting on the edge of the platform in a distressed state.

One woman who saw him, but didn’t want to be named, said: “He was shouting and had his hands on his head. He just kept shouting and seemed very upset.

"He was sitting on the side of the platform.

"I heard the police sirens as they arrived and then officers came down to talk to the man.

"I hope they can help him."

A spokesman for Kent Police confirmed officers were called out to the station shortly after 2pm and were assisting BTP colleagues at the scene.

It is not thought the incident has led to any delays on services.
