Several police cars were spotted near a petrol station after reports two men tried to steal fuel.

Residents reported seeing a police helicopter hovering above the Esso Robin Hood garage in Walderslade during the incident yesterday afternoon.

Police say they were called to the garage in Walderslade Road at around 2.20pm.

After carrying out a search of the area they were unable to find the suspects.

A van thought to be connected to the incident was later recovered in Robin Hood Lane.

Inquiries to locate the suspects are ongoing.
