A fire started with firelighters in Strood is being treated as suspicious.

Strood firefighters were called to Northcote Road this morning (Saturday) at 2am, after being alerted to a patch of grass alight.

On arrival crews found a pile of firelighters burning on the ground.

It was put out in 10 minutes.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue said the fire is believed to have been started deliberately.
