Detectives investigating the rape of a woman as she walked across a park in the Towns have issued CCTV of a man they would like to speak to who they say is of Indian appearance.
The woman was raped as she walked across the Great Lines Heritage Park, in Gillingham, from a friend’s home during the early hours of Saturday, February 11.
It happened in a grassy area in the park opposite the junction of Marlborough Road and Lock Street, at some point between 1am and 1.40am.
The 37-year-old woman had left a friend’s house to walk into town when she was approached by a man who attacked her.
At the time, officers appealed to the public to help identity the man after issuing a description of him, but now they have released CCTV images in the hope they can find new witnesses.
The man who raped her is of stocky build of Indian appearance, in his 20s, with bushy eyebrows and neatly-cut sideburns.
DC Rachel Ryder, the investigating officer, said: “We have been conducting numerous enquiries into this incident and we are now in a position to be able to release this CCTV image.
“The person shown in the CCTV image may be able to assist us with our enquiries and we are keen to speak to them.
“We would like to hear from anyone that may remember walking past a man matching this description on the night of the incident, or from anyone who believes they recognise this man.”
“I would ask any possible witnesses to call us on 01634 792209 quoting reference XY/6492/17.
“If they would prefer to remain anonymous, Crimestoppers can be called instead on 0800 555111.”
