A police officer has appeared at Medway Magistrates Court charged with drink driving and failing to stop a the scene of an accident.

Dione Mayfield, who had reached the status of temporary inspector after taking promotion steps, appeared in court on Wednesday, January 13.

The charges relate to crash in Rainham, on Friday, September 25, 2009.

Temporary Inspector Mayfield, 32, from Rainham, has been suspended from her duties within the force.

She worked at the Kent Police headquarters in Maidstone at the time of the incident.

She is next due in court on Tuesday, January 26.
