Witnesses are being sought after a teenage boy was stabbed and robbed.

Armed officers and an air ambulance were spotted near the Medway Park Sports Centre in Mill Road, Gillingham, last night.

Parts of the road were blocked by police near the junction with Trinity Road and the play park remains taped off as forensic officers work at the scene.

A teenage boy sustained injuries consistent with a stab wound and had his coat and bag stolen.

The boy was taken to a London hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

No arrests have yet been made and inquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.

Kelly Sweeney, of Mill Road, said the police have been at the scene all night.

She added: “I saw police cars and the boy laying on the floor near the shelter and basketball court. There was a group of boys nearby, there was loads of them. They were just hanging around, I thought it was weird.

“We then saw who we thought was his mum running towards the park. She dropped her shopping bags.

“We just want to know if the boy is OK. This sort of thing does not really happen around here, my little boy plays in that park.”

Another nearby resident said she only knew something had happened when a police officer was banging on her door.

She said: “It is just so scary. It is just horrible, I do not know what the world is coming to.”

Someone else who lives opposite the park said she heard the helicopter arrive last night and hoped the youngster was OK but did not know anything more.
