A tourist attraction is reducing its ticket prices this summer as the cost of living crisis continues to hit families.

The Historic Dockyard, in Chatham, is offering Medway residents who claim universal or pension credit a major discount.

The pilot scheme aims to remove the price barrier to access the dockyard.

Its website states: “In the lead up to the 40th anniversary of the closure of the working dockyard, we want as many local people as possible to be able to enjoy a day out with us, to experience climbing aboard our historic warships, seeing the last remaining operational ropewalk, getting hands-on in our galleries and connecting with the stories of the past.”

There will be a limited number of tickets available for eligible residents each day for £2 per person while those for children aged three and under are free.

Tickets usually cost £25 or £15 for children if paid for online.

People hoping to take advantage of the reduced rate will need to book in advance online and bring proof of universal or pension credit on the day of the visit.
