DISCOUNT fashion giant Primark hopes to extend its branch in Chatham High Street – plans which will see the store almost double in size.
Primark has applied to expand the shop into the former Woolworth’s building, which is next door but one.
Mr Bean Coffee House, which sits between the two stores, will remain open.
A planning application has been submitted to Medway Council to make the necessary alterations to the empty shop and a decision is expected to be made by the end of August.
It is not yet known how many jobs the extended Primark store will create or when it is due to open its doors.
Chatham Woolworth’s closed in January after the High Street chain went into administration. It was among four stores to close in Medway. The others have all been taken over by:
Twydall Green: Twydall Discount Store
Gillingham High Street: 99p Store
Strood High Street: set to become an Iceland supermarket.
