Prison officers who allegedly uncuffed a violent inmate during a hospital stay so he could have sex with his girlfriend have been sacked.
An investigation was launched after The Sun reported Declan Madigan and girlfriend Karen Robson were also allowed to use mobile phones and shared takeaway dinners with guards.
According to The Sun, the three officers have now lost their jobs at Kent’s Swaleside Prison following the incident at Medway Maritime Hospital last year.
Madigan is serving 11 years at HMP Swaleside in Eastchurch, Sheppey, for ordering a drive-by shooting and firearms and drug offences and is meant to be under constant supervision and handcuffed to a prison officer at all times.
He was at the hospital while doctors looked into claims the 30-year-old, who is paralysed from the chest down, had lost the use of his arms, according to the newspaper.
According to the online article published on Saturday, the Prison Service said: “Following this unacceptable incident last year, three members of staff at HMP Swaleside have been dismissed and one given a written warning.”
The Prison Service has been contacted for a comment.
