Word has it they would walk 500 miles, and 500 more...
But they’re ‘gonna be’ travelling a lot further than that, because after playing the Sydney Opera House in April, Craig and Charlie Reid, aka The Proclaimers, will be making their way to a stage on the other side of the world – at
The Central Theatre in Chatham.
These tireless wanderers of the folk-punk-pop-rock world have been traversing genres and music charts for decades – and are as comfortable on the world’s grandest stages as they are in provincial English theatres.
A tour of Australia and New Zealand will conclude at Auckland ASB Theatre on April 24, after which the twins will enjoy a brief break before hitting Skegness Embassy Theatre stage on May 13.
The delights of venues such as Llandudno, Scarborough, Reading, Weston-super-Mare and Croydon await in the following months before the duo are on their way home after finishing the tour at Chatham on Friday, July 22.
But this is no tired old act dragging its former hits around the edges of the country. Since releasing their hugely acclaimed 10th studio album Let’s Hear It For The Dogs in April 2015, The Proclaimers embarked on a mammoth 68 UK date tour which included 15 festivals and 53 sold out venues.
Countrywide gig website Ents 24, announced them as the sixth biggest live music act in the UK in 2015, and festival highlights included Wychwood, Glastonbury, T In The Park, Cambridge, Carfest, Belladrum and V Festivals.
Expect hits including the obligatory I’m Gonna Be (500 miles); I’m on My Way, Let’s Get Married and Sunshine on Leith; as well as a back catalogue packed full of emotional honesty, political fire, wit and sing-along raucousness.
The bespectacled duo have also enjoyed something of a career reprise following the success of the film Sunshine on Leith, a musical drama featuring their songs, which released as a movie in October 2013 and became the fifth highest grossing Independent UK film of that year.
