Prog pioneers are in town
British prog rock pioneers Curved Air will play at Chatham’s Brook Theatre this Thursday.
Formed of musicians from mixed artistic backgrounds, including classical, folk and electronic sound, the band rose to prominence in the 1970s with a sound that forged prog-rock with folk-rock and fusion with classical elements.
The line-up has evolved over the years, but original members Sonja Kristina (vocals) and Florian Pilkington-Miksa (drums) remain, alongside Kirby Gregory (guitar), Chris Harris (bass), Robert Norton (keyboards) and Paul Sax (violin).
But the skilled musicianship of the band remains at its heart, and such hits as “It Happened Today” “Young Mother” and “Back Street Luv” continue to be performed with the gusto that made them timeless classics in the first place.
Doors 7pm, tickets, £15.
Be drawn into the world of a crime classic
Gangster Harold Shand takes on a lucrative new lucrative new deal with mafia money in The Long Good Friday.
The movie, starring Bob Hoskins and Helen Mirren, is this week’s cinema pick from Rochester Kino.
Film reviewer Nick Walker said: "Shand is portrayed perfectly by the late Bob Hoskins in a role he was born to play.
"In his breakthrough lead, Hoskins is excellent as a man with many troubles – the film is essentially a character study, a portrait of a tough man with sensitivity and fears."
Screening at Chatham Odeon on Thursday at 7.45pm. Visit www.rochesterkino.co.uk
