Environment campaigners staged a protest outside a petrol station in Gillingham.
The group, which was led by Medway Amnesty International, held up posters and handed out leaflets at the Shell garage in Nelson Road.
They were campaigning to make people more aware of the firm’s practices in places such as the Niger Delta, an oil-producing area in Nigeria.
According to Amnesty International, more than nine million barrels of oil have been spilt in the area in the past 50 years.
Protestor Christian Caruana, 35, said: “We’re not asking people to boycott Shell, but to tell them about the company’s activities.
“Shell listens to its customers so we want them to give Shell feedback on its practices.”
Other groups represented at the protest were the Universities of Medway Student Society and Kingsnorth Climate Action Medway (KCAM).
Steve Wilkins is a member of KCAM. The 57-year-old said: “This protest gives the issue publicity. It’s a small action but it it all helps.”
