Heavy rain is causing traffic problems in Medway and police are advising people to be prepared for the bad weather over the next few days.

Kent Police has issued a warning to motorists and pedestrians to be extra vigilant. Today’s conditions have resulted in considerable water on the Towns' roads, resulting in heavy traffic.

Officers were called to Walderslade village centre during rush hour this morning as water had flooded Walderslade road.

One motorist said: "The road is always bad when there is heavy rain but this morning it was particularly bad. Two police officers were acting like traffic lights, so each direction of traffic took turns driving around through the water where it was shallowest."

Reports suggest there could be continued heavy rain throughout today (Friday) and tomorrow with the possibility of strong winds.

Police have issued the following advice.

Check the weather forecast and road conditions before you travel.

Poor weather conditions mean it can be harder for drivers to see pedestrians and cyclists, so be vigilant and make sure you can be seen however you are travelling this includes using lights or wearing high visibility clothing.

In poor visibility be extra alert for hazards.

When the roads are wet it can take twice as long to stop your vehicle, so slow down.

Carry warm waterproof clothing, food, water and a torch in your vehicle, in case weather conditions mean you have to stop.

Make sure you have plenty of fuel for your journey before you set off.
