Firefighters were called out to a rubbish tip in Cuxton, on Bank Holiday Monday after a refuse lorry caught alight.

A crew from Strood fire station were called out to the tip in Sundridge Hill at about 1pm after compacted rubbish inside the lorry burst into flames.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service, said: "There was about 10 tonnes of rubbish inside and we had to drag it out.

"We used another lorry which was on site with a massive metal hook on it on it to drag the rest of the burning rubbish out.

"We were on site for about an hour making sure the rubbish was out and would remind homeowners to be careful what they put in their rubbish bags."
