Services are being planned across Medway to mark Remembrance Sunday.

The Towns will fall silent at 11am on Friday to observe Armistice Day on the historic date of 11.11.11.

The Mayor of Medway, Cllr Ted Baker, will attend a parade to Rochester Cathedral that leaves the Guildhall Museum at 10.40am on Sunday.

After the parade, led by the Rochester Pipe Band, there will be a wreath-laying ceremony at Rochester War Memorial.

There will be ceremonies at five other venues on Sunday: The Great Lines War memorial, Gillingham; Black Lion War Memorial, Gillingham; St Margaret's Church, Rainham; Victoria Gardens, Chatham; and Brompton War Memorial, Gillingham.

On Saturday, The Royal Marines' Association will hold its annual remembrance service and Turning the Page Ceremony at Rochester Cathedral.

Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal organisers are hoping this year's milestone date - the first string of 11s since 1911 - will help smash last year's fundraising total.

The charity, which provides help to serving and former members of the Armed Forces and their families, is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year.

Last year's Poppy Appeal in Medway raised £133,000 and local volunteers will be aiming to beat that total with collectors based at venues across the Towns.
