Reports of a body in the water sparked a huge emergency search in the early hours.

A coastguard helicopter was seen searching the River Medway near Chatham shortly after midnight.

There were reports of emergency boats also searching the water.

But thankfully, the callout turned out to be a false alarm.

A coastguard spokesman said: “It was a report of someone in the water.

“It turned out to be a false alarm with good intent.”
