We all grew up watching the Addams Family, in movies or television series, but since they first appeared on our screens in 1964 not much as changed.
But change is afoot for this weird, eccentric family as it leaps onto the stage in a new musical comedy.
The Three Towns Theatre Company certainly did this Broadway musical justice with a production at The Brook Theatre for Halloween.
Wednesday Addams, played by Victoria Pemble, has grown up and found love and chaos ensues as the two meet each other’s families for the first time.
Pemble’s performance and vocals are brilliant with Richard McBride as fiancé Luca Beineke, they give a performance we can all relate to of that embarrassing and awkward first family meeting.
The couple just want one “normal” evening but when it comes to the Addams, we all know nothing can never be “normal”...
Directed by Samantha Grace, the show was engaging and hilarious, with the cast capturing the characteristics of our favourite freaky family.
Gwyneth Loft and Tony Harrold lead the cast as Morticia and Gomez, and prove that all marital problems can simply be solved with a dance off.
Pugsley is alternatively played by Sam Loft, 10, and Billy Woodhouse, 13 - Sam appeared in Thursday’s show, bravely singing a solo bemoaning the loss of his big sister.
Geoff Coote’s silent, slow, straight-faced performance as butler Lurch is perfect and surprises everyone at the end by leading the cast in song.
It was a wonderful to hear, and see, a live orchestra providing a live soundtrack to the performance, led by musical director Martyn Clements.
The Addams Family The Musical is showing again this evening at 7.30pm and twice tomorrow at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.
