Multiple roadworks scheduled for this week are causing traffic chaos in Rainham.
Work on two sewer connections has led to the closure of Lower Rainham road from Monday February 14, and is expected to carry on until Thursday February 27.
Meanwhile a closure was also enforced from Monday on Pump Lane due to resurfacing works, and was expected to continue until Friday.
Elsewhere works are being carried out by broadband companies CityFibre and Openreach in London Road, while roadworks in Otterham Quay Lane - to build a new crossing - are expected to continue until March 6.
There are also works on Station Road being carried out by UK Power Networks from February 15 to February 23 and a number of other works scheduled on residential roads around the town.
With carriageway closures and temporary traffic lights causing gridlock on the streets, residents and business owners have criticised the timing of scheduled works - although others noted the works were essential and coincided with half term to minimise impact.
Commentators on Facebook described the situation as "carnage", and said the timing of works was "utter madness", while some suggested the works were a result of over-development in the area.
It's also thought traffic problems have been compounded by works further down the A289 at the Medway Tunnel, where ongoing road improvements are expected to finish later in the spring.
Medway Council have been approached for further comment.
