They are nursing sore feet and aching muscles this morning but the Medway runners who completed the London Marathon yesterday were filled with pride at their achievement.
And so they should be, as many raised thousands for good causes.
Marie Debont-Booth, 46, of Sturdee Avenue, in Gillingham, helped the charity Core in memory of her nephew Lee, who died of liver cancer in March. She crossed the finish line after 5hrs 35mins 49 secs.
Marie teamed up with the charity Core to raise money for sufferers of digestive diseases.
Gillingham Labour councillor Andy Stamp was running for Danny’s Angels which helps CLIC Sargeant. He raised more than £3,600 and completed in 5hrs 24mins 4secs.
Sunday was Pride in Medway winner Rebecca Beard’s 14th marathon since she first took part in the event three years ago.
The 24-year-old from Chatham has already raised £40,000 for various charities through her fundraising initiative Team Run 12.
This time, Rebecca, who won the sponsors’ award from mhs homes at Pride in Medway, was running for Breast Cancer Care and finished in 4hrs 42mins 17secs.
Adrian Lowther, 35, who runs for Medway and Maidstone AC, came 40th, in 2hr 27min 14sec.
Joe Clements, 26, from Twydall, completed his second marathon in a week in 4hrs 52mins.
He ran Brighton marathon and then London to raise money for the Valence School, Westerham, a residential school for disabled children, where he works.
