The closure comes as temperatures dipped to below freezing overnight and are not expected to reach more than 7C during the day.

A school spokesman said: "Due to a fault, our electricity supply has been disconnected by UK Power Networks, who advise that only our meter operator can carry out the required repair.

"Once this repair has been carried out by our meter operator, UK Power Networks will then reconnect our electricity supply.

"Kent County Council (KCC) was unable to help us resolve the issue last night.

"Tunbury staff have done all that we can to find a solution, but it has been extremely frustrating so far, with no progress made to fix this issue.

"We do not want our children to lose any learning time, but we cannot open the school without power and heating."

KCC hopes the school will open as normal tomorrow.

A spokesman said: "Tunbury Primary School was suddenly left without power late yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon and the supply could not be restored overnight in time for the school to reopen today.

“The fault has been identified and engineers from Npower are currently on their way to rectify the problem and restore power.

“We anticipate the school will be open as usual tomorrow and will keep parents and carers informed through our usual channels.”
