A self-taught artist from India will display her work at Wigmore Library this month.
The collection of paintings is inspired by Meera Ahamed’s exploration of spirituality and the inner mind.
The Rainham based mum-of-three will exhibit “Reflections Within” until the end of August.
Meera said: “This particular exhibition is about spiritual awakening.
“I was interested in meditating and yoga after going through some hard times – it pushed me through that.”
She is also a practising Muslim and said her spiritual journey helped her faith.
“Now I find more meaning in prayers – before it was more like a ritual.
“I’ve been doing them my whole life but now I am more aware.”
Her journey of the mind is reflected within her work through abstract elements.
“As a dedicated oil painter I find using ink gives me the freedom to express clearly as the thoughts are instantly flowing into the paper,” said Meera.
Born in Tamil Nadu in South India, the 46-year-old moved to Medway when she married her husband.
She said: “Art is an expression. Since my childhood, I have painted.
“It’s all self-taught, I didn’t go to any colleges – it was all through looking at paintings and magazines, all the deatils and following the same strokes.”
Meera has since had her pieces displayed across Kent, including at Medway Maritime Hospital, and often delivers art classes and works on commission.
Her artwork has also been sold and exhibited both locally and internationally.
Wigmore Library is open Tuesday to Saturday and admission to see Meera’s art is free.
All the paintings on display are original and available for purchase.
