MEDWAY'S massive riverside development has been thrown into turmoil after the developer suddenly pulled out, it has been revealed. Construction giant Wimpey became the second developer this year to reject the scheme, which would have included homes, businesses, a hotel and leisure areas.
It follows the decision by Berkeley Homes not to take on the 70-acre project - seen as crucial to the regeneration of Medway's waterfront - after refusing to agree the terms of the contract with the council.
The shock news means Medway council leaders have to find another development partner if the dream of a redeveloped riverside is to become a reality.
Councillors insisted the plans were not back to square one.The land remains earmarked for development with compulsory purchase orders in place.
