Seven men have been arrested on suspicion of fly-tipping.

The men who are from Chatham and Rochester, were arrested as a result of a joint investigation between Medway police and environmental officers at Medway Council.

Police were alerted to a number of people allegedly involved in fly-tipping on an area of land on Ash Tree Lane, Chatham, last Friday.

The Chatham men arrested are aged, 17, 20, 23, 25 and 26.

Another man, 22, from Rochester was also arrested with a 48-year-old of no fixed address.

All men have been released on bail until Tuesday, January 13, while enquiries continue.

Sgt Tony Dyer said: “We were told about the offence taking place and were able to react quickly and arrest the men who were at the site.

"Fly-tipping can be very dangerous and affects people’s quality of life.

“Working alongside our partners we are keen to prevent people from fly-tipping across Medway and if caught then they will face prosecution.”

Cllr Rehman Chishti, Medway Council’s portfolio holder for community safety, added: “Fly-tipping and littering often has a negative impact on how an area is judged.
