A pervert who sexually abused a young girl and then tried to intimidate her to avoid justice has been jailed for 16 years.
A judge told Stanislav Fako he committed “a wicked campaign of sexual abuse”.
Under an extended sentence for public protection, the 31-year-old Slovakian, of Mill Terrace, Chatham, will have to serve two thirds – 12 years – before he can apply for release.
If he is still considered to be a danger, he will have to serve the full 16 years.
Fako denied attempted rape, causing a child to engage in sexual activity, assault by penetration, engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, intimidation and two offences of causing a child to watch a sexual act, but was convicted.
Maidstone Crown Court heard he had shown no remorse as he had not accepted he was guilty of the offences committed in Gravesend.
A jury was told Fako showed the girl pornography and then forced her to perform a sex act on him. The most serious offence was when he wore a condom and was close to having intercourse with her.
While on bail, he made threats to the victim in an attempt to get her to lie in court.
Fako had no previous convictions in the UK, but had served a prison sentence in Slovakia for a non-sexual assault.
Eve George, defending, said when Fako appeared for sentence on Thursday: “He is distraught at the outcome. He has lost his home and his job. He has nowhere to live. He may have to go and live in Belgium with his sister.
“He is totally upset about where he finds himself. He wants to assure you he is not a danger to the public or children.”
But Judge Charles Macdonald QC said he agreed with a report on Fako that he was a danger and imposed the extended sentence.
The victim’s statement, he said, was “mature and thoughtful”.
The judge said of Fako: “He shows no remorse and has no insight into the harm suffered by sexual abuse children.”
Fako’s name will appear on the sex offenders’ register for life and he will be barred from working with children and vulnerable adults. An indefinite sexual harm prevent order was made.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Anne-Marie Mcateer said: "Fako acted in an appealing manner to a young child who should have been able to trust him and through her bravery and our work within the community we were able to bring him to justice and ensure he did not get away with what he had done.
"I’d like to commend the bravery of the victim and also her family. This was a difficult case and Fako didn’t care about the ordeal he put the victim or her family through, he only thought about himself and I’m really pleased that he has received this substantial prison sentence.
"I would encourage anyone who is a victim of sexual abuse, no matter when it happened, to get in touch with Kent Police as we will always investigate. We have trained officers and will investigate crimes sensitivity and professionally."
