An investigation in Rainham town centre followed reports of a sexual assault, police have confirmed.

Officers were called to Longley Road after a reported assault at 10.25pm on Saturday.

A police cordon was put in place and forensics teams were seen in the area near Rainham Shopping Centre the following day.

Several police cars and about five officers were at the scene near the precinct car park and sniffer dogs were also brought in.

Police inquiries into the circumstances are continuing.
