Nominate a Medway Maritime Hospital staff member or volunteer for a Hospital Hero award

Have you had reason to be in Medway Maritime Hospital recently? Maybe a friend or relative has needed treatment there?

We want to hear from our readers who feel that members of staff at the hospital have gone above and beyond the call of duty to deliver outstanding care.

The Medway Messenger has again teamed up with Medway NHS Foundation Trust to launch a Hospital Hero award.

The hospital has been in the spotlight since being placed in special measures in 2013 but we often hear praise for staff doing their best in difficult circumstances.

Now is your chance to give them some recognition.

Last month the staff at Wakeley ward received a Pride in Medway certificate after being nominated for the dignity, compassion and good humour they showed to a dying patient. Could they also be a Hospital Hero?

The title is part of the annual staff awards which are now in their 14th year and organised by the trust’s Improving Working Lives team.

Trust chief executive Lesley Dwyer said: “Our fantastic staff work tirelessly all year round to provide high quality and compassionate care for the people of Medway.

“If you know of any staff members at the hospital who have gone the extra mile, then we would really encourage you to put them forward for this prestigious award.”

Last year, the award went to the hospital maternity team.

Claire Tarry nominated them after losing her son Alfie in 2013. Mrs Tarry went on to have a second son, Franklin, in September 2014, and said: “Franklin has helped to mend our hearts, broken after losing Alfie. Every day I wake to see him smiling and every day I am so grateful.

“We owe it to all the amazing people at Medway maternity services, a department full of miracle makers.”

To nominate someone for the 2016 award, write to Hospital Hero, Medway Messenger newsdesk, Medway House, Ginsbury Close, Sir Thomas Longley Road, Medway City Estate, Strood ME2 4DU or email medwaymessenger@thekmgroup.co.uk putting Hospital Hero as the subject of your message.

Please include a short description of why you think your nominee deserves the award and what department they work in, as well as your contact details. The closing date is Friday, April 15.

The winner will be chosen by the Improving Working Lives team and Messenger editor Bob Bounds and will be announced at the Celebrating Excellence staff awards on Friday, May 20.
