CAPTAIN Paul Smith believes Gillingham have come through a potentially tricky opening two games against Wimbledon and Derby by not allowing opponents to settle on the ball.
Former England international Rob Lee hardly got a look in against the Rams as Smith and Andy Hessenthaler constantly snapped at his heels.
Smith said: "He's a decent player and we knew they'd try to give him the ball to create openings. We tried to limit chances by cutting off that supply and making them struggle."
The captain also paid tribute to the role the fans played at Priestfield and cheekily mentioned that it was a shame the club has not yet sorted out its bonus scheme.
"Two wins, six points, the sooner we sort out the bonus share the better so we get some money for these games. But on a serious note we're happy to be sat at the top of the table even though it's early days.
"Now it's Millwall at home on Saturday, which is always a big game and we want the fans to generate an atmosphere like they did against Derby which I must say was fantastic and reminded the players of the electric feel of the play-offs."
