MEDWAY’S SOS Bus is now looking after revellers in Rochester on two nights a week.
The bright orange bus, which helps people who have been out drinking in the town, now operates on Saturdays as well as Fridays.
The bus was launched in May but enough volunteers have now been found for a second session and the medically-equipped vehicle was in Rochester on Saturday night. It is based just off the High Street at the Blue Boar Lane car park opposite the Casino Rooms from 9pm-2am.
The SOS Bus is run by Medway’s Council for Voluntary Service with the help of the Red Cross. It is funded by the Medway Community Safety Partnership (CSP).
Ch Supt Steve Corbishley, who is the Medway CSP chairman, said: “The SOS Bus is proving to be a vital part of our efforts to make Medway a safer place to live, work and socialise.
“People out in Rochester have come to appreciate its presence. The SOS Bus is also proving its worth by reducing demand on police, ambulance and hospital services.”
Bus co-ordinator Robin Wharfe said: “The SOS bus has made a real difference to the safety of people enjoying a night out in Rochester since its launch. We hope to repeat that with the new Saturday service.”
The service is always keen for more volunteers. Contact Robin Wharfe on 01634 812850 or 07817 780860.Alternatively email him on robin@cvsmedway.org.uk
