Detectives have launched an investigation into a spate of thefts from cars in the Wigmore area.

Police are appealing for information after several valuable items were taken from unsecured vehicles on people's driveways and outside their homes.

Items stolen include cash and a charger for a games console, while damage was caused to a steering lock on a motorbike.

DC Dan Bister said: "We are currently investigating several thefts from vehicles and instances in which vehicles have been interfered with, but no items taken.

"We believe the offender has gained access to these vehicles by checking car door handles and attempting to steal items from those which had been left insecure.

"We believe that people in the area may have private CCTV footage of the offences.

"We would urge anyone with CCTV installed to review the footage and contact police as a priority should there be images of the offender."

A spate of thefts took place overnight on Wednesday, April 13.

Officers are also keen to remind motorists of simple crime prevention measures, such as locking your car and making sure the windows are not open.

Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to phone DC Bister on 01634 792685 or CrimeStoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
