Special meeting on schools

Around 30 people attended a special meeting on the schools closure plan and they certainly made councillors aware of their presence.

Staff, parents and pupils from Ridge Meadow, St Peter’s and St John’s Infant School which all face possible closure, cheered, clapped and booed during the meeting which was held at the St George’s Centre, Chatham Maritime last night, Tuesday.

The special meeting was organised because there wasn't time to get through all the questions on the issue at the last full meeting of Medway Council.

The level of noise meant at times it was difficult to hear clearly the question and answer session between councillors. Annoyed with the disruption Cllr Susan Haydock stood up at one point and asked the Mayor of Medway Cllr David Royle to control the public gallery.

The public consultation period on the closures ends today, Wednesday.
