People facing Christmas on the streets or on their own are being invited to enjoy a three-course meal on Christmas Day.
For the third year running, Medway Sunlight Rotary Club is organising the event for those who have nowhere to live, families in crisis or for those who want some companionship.
As well as the hot three-course meal, all those who attend will also be given a Christmas gift.
Organiser and past president Grace Kelly said she has been overwhelmed by the generosity of members of the club, friends, family and supporters.
“It is amazing how the support for this meal has grown since we started to provide it in 2014,” she said. “I am just blown away with the generosity of people who have donated turkeys, vegetables and all the other food and trimmings to enable us to provide a memorable meal for all those less fortunate than ourselves.
“In addition we have been given warm clothing and presents for those that attend and are in need and I can’t thank everyone enough for their support.”
"The hall will be decorated and buzzing with activity if last year is anything to go by" - organiser Grace Kelly
The Medway Messenger’s Christmas appeal for 2016 aims to raise more awareness of the issue of homelessness in the Towns and encourage our readers to support charities which are helping people on the streets over the festive season.
Around 20 volunteers will be giving up some or all of their family celebrations to cook and serve the Rotary Club meal and to just listen or talk to those who are lonely.
The meal will be served in two sittings, at 12.30pm and 2pm, at Chatham and Strood Salvation Army’s base in Church Street, Chatham
Ms Kelly added: “The hall will be decorated and buzzing with activity if last year is anything to go by.”
Medway Sunlight Rotary has also donated funds to purchase rucksacks, clothing and toiletries which are being distributed to those living on the streets through the Salvation Army and the charity, Halo.
