Medway's comic talent comes to the fore with the latest collection of Royal Mail stamps.

The six cinematic stamps mark the 50th birthday of the Carry On film, as well as the first Hammer Dracula movie.

Carry On producer Peter Rogers was both born in Rochester and educated at the Kings School.

He began his career on the Kentish Express newspaper, now owned by the Medway Messenger's parent company - Kent Messenger Group.

The stamps feature the very first Carry On film released in 1958 - Carry on Sergeant. The film follows the adventures of a hapless group of National Servicemen as they face the culture shock of Army life. Starring Bob Monkhouse, Kenneth Connor, Bill Owen, Shirley Eaton and William Hartnell.

Also featured is Carry On Cleo, which was released in 1964, starring Sid James as Mark Antony and featuring Charles Hawtrey, Joan Sims and Jim Dale.

Also making an appearance is Carry On Screaming. Released in 1966 it was a pastiche on the then popular Hammer Horrors, following the adventures of a pair of Victorian detectives (Harry H Corbett and Jim Dale) as they investigate a suspicious showroom dummy factory run by Fenella Fielding and Kenneth Williams.

Hammer horror films featured on the stamps are Dracula (1958), The Curse of Frankenstein(1957) and The Mummy (1959, which featuers Peter Cushing, who lived in Whitstable.
