Colourful pictures and patterns have been popping up in shop windows in Chatham to mark the route of proposed developments in the town centre.
The vinyl stickers have been placed in shops along Railway Street and Military Road as part of the Chatham Placemaking Project, a series of initiatives to get local people involved in £4 million regeneration plans.
The money will also be used to create an easier journey for pedestrians and cyclists from the railway station to the bus station and town centre while improvements will be made at New Cut junction, St John’s Square, Military Square and Military Road.
The stickers show the route of the proposed improvements which are due to take place next year.
They have designs featuring the arm of Thomas Waghorn from his town centre statue and patterns based on ironwork around the town and at Chatham railway station.
Four artists are working on the Chatham Placemaking project to encourage local people to get involved.
Design maker Xtina Lamb has been putting the stickers around the town centre, artist Christopher Tipping, writer Rob Young and Chatham filmmaker Simon Williams have been talking to people to gather their stories and anecdotes for a film, which will be shown on the screen at the bus station.
The artists are now working with a design team to help influence improvements to the paving and landscaping of the area.
Xtina said: “Shops and businesses on the project route along Railway Street and Military Road have been great about giving us window space.”
She thanked Mask Flowers, Chatham Post Office, Red Menswear, STOP! mobile phone repair shop, Woods Designer Clothing and Café Nucleus for allowing her to put stickers in their windows.
