'Stolen' car crashed into a Chatham High Street shop and a man and were arrested on suspicion of theft

Two people have been arrested after they crashed a stolen car into a high street shop.

Police were hot on the heels of a car, which they believed to be stolen.

It was reported missing from a Chatham home at 1.20am today.

Officers spotted the car being driven near Chatham Railway Station at around 3.50am.

They tailed the car for 10 minutes until it went careering into a shop.

The driver and passenger ran from the crash.

However, with help from a police dog, officers arrested a 39-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman, both from Chatham, on suspicion of theft of motor vehicle.

They remain in custody as inquiries continue.
