TJ's E-Cigarettes in Chatham burgled in late-night raid

A suspected burglar who scrambled into an e-cigarette shop in Chatham High Street has been arrested after police caught him in the act.


CCTV footage of the burglary which happened just before midnight on Monday (January 21) shows the man entering the shop via a sky light in the roof.


He then creeps around the shop and goes to the till before crouching down on the shop floor.

The CCTV then shows the police attending.

The business is owned by Terry John Utting, 39, who owns 10 E-Cigarette shops in Kent.

Mr Utting said the police smashed the front door of the shop to get in and apprehend the man, who was unable to get out.

He added that he was tipped off that it would happen and tried to secure the premises beforehand.

He has now said he will be fitting all his shops with new alarm systems and metal railings.

Kent Police confirmed that they sent officers to the shop at 11.45pm on Monday night and arrested a 43 year-old man on suspicion of burglary.

Adrian Edwards, 43, of no fixed address appeared in court at Medway Magistrates on Wednesday where he plead guilty to burglary and criminal damage of a police cell.

He was committed to 120 days imprisonment and ordered to pay £600 in compensation to Kent Police.
