A Rainham teenager has been left with a sour taste after pleading guilty to dropping his takeaway litter.
Steven Williams, 18, probably ate the most expensive meal of his life, after being fined almost £200 by magistrates for failing to dispose of his rubbish properly.
Williams of Thompson Close, was out with a friend in his silver Citroen Saxo on Saturday, November 8, when he was spotted by a Medway Council officer dumping his leftovers by the side of his car.
He was seen opening his car door and throwing away an empty can of drink and a white bag.
He was approached by the officer and was asked to pick his rubbish up, but refused to do so and was issued with a £60 fixed penalty notice and drove off.
Williams then failed to pay the fine, despite repeated attempts to contact him.
He was ordered to appear at Medway Magistrates Court where he pleaded guilty to the offence of depositing litter.
Magistrates fined him £117 and awarded a contribution of £50 towards the council’s costs, which he will have to pay within the next 14 days.
A spokesman for the Medway Council, said: "The safer communities officers work hard to ensure Medway is a clean and safe place.
"We want everyone that lives and works in Medway to feel proud of their environment.
"Most people dispose of their litter responsibly, but there is a small minority of people who choose to disregard the rules.
"This case highlights the fact that we will take enforcement action against anyone who discards their litter in the street."
