The sweet-toothed among us can looked forward to more dessert delights as another pudding parlour is set to open in the Towns.
Plans have been submitted to Medway Council to transform a vacant DIY shop just off Gillingham High Street.
Applicant Diljit Brar wants to turn the former Fads building in Green Street into a Kaspa’s restaurant.
It would create 20 new jobs by joining Medway’s growing list of dessert-only eateries.
Creams at Chatham Dockside regularly has queues out of the door, and the Crepe and Co Pancake Parlour is set to open soon in College Yard, Rochester.
The Kaspa’s chain already has restaurants in London, Cardiff and Bristol, and offers high-quality desserts including ice creams, waffles, crepes, milkshakes, smoothies and sundaes. The planning application says that the parlour would offer “a relaxing and unwinding interior” and will bring the long-derelict building back into use, “giving much needed vitality and viability to this area just off the busy High Street”.
The main seating area, comprising of booths and two-person tables, would be towards the rear of the shop and the serving counter would be at the front to allow for takeaway orders and eat-in diners.
The restaurant would create 12 full-time and eight part-time jobs.
Mr Brar, who also owns Costa Coffee on Rochester High Street, intends to divide the ground floor of the building in two.
The other half of the premises will be a shop, but the plans do not reveal who will be taking over the unit.
A new door will allow the upper floors of the building, which will be leased out separately, to be accessed directly from the street.
The shop formerly occupied by the Fads DIY and furniture chain has been vacant for seven years and was previously linked with pub chain Wetherspoons.
Speaking at the time, Wetherspoons spokesman Eddie Gershon said it was keen to open in Gillingham but would not comment on individual sites.
