Hotel staff have organised a quiz night to raise cash for the Medway Echo Appeal.
Holiday Inn, Rochester, is supporting the British Heart Foundation's bid to raise £30,000 for a new echo machine for Medway Maritime Hospital.
Employees at the hotel, in Maidstone Road, are backing the campaign because colleague Rose Ellis (pictured) was born with a heart condition.
Rose, 32, from Gravesend, was born with a narrowing of the aorta. She has undergone three serious operations, the first when she was just five months old.
Every year Rose is given a check-up using an echo machine. The equipment works like an ultrasound and helps to diagnose diseases of the heart valve and heart muscle in older people, as well as looking for congenital defects in babies.
Rose, who has worked in the accounts department at Holiday Inn for two years, said: "I have to take medication every day but apart from that I can lead a fairly normal, active life.
"Once a year I have a check up with an echo machine which can pick up things that standard tests can't. That's why it's so important that people help to raise cash for an new echo machine for Medway Maritime Hospital to help other people like myself.
"The British Heart Foundation is something which is very close to me and hopefully the quiz will help to raise awareness of the echo appeal and raise cash, too."
The quiz night is being held at the Holiday Inn, Maidstone Road, Rochester, on Friday, July 10.
Tickets cost £7 per person based on teams of six. Entry price includes a ploughman's. Drinks will be available at the private bar, with 10 per cent of the proceeds going straight to the British Heart Foundation.
Organiser Alison Lawrence said: "It's going to be a fun-filled evening everyone can enjoy, with some fantastic prizes."
