The first phase of a graduate jobs scheme aimed at breathing new life into the Towns is enjoying massive success.

The Medway Innovation Centre (MIC) based at Rochester Airfield is approaching fifty percent capacity.

The centre is a ground-breaking joint venture between BAE Systems, Royal Bank of Scotland, University of Greenwich, University of Kent and Medway Council.

Its aim is to develop a cluster of growing technology businesses in Medway. Recent new clients include RED Ltd a start-up company specialising in Education Recruitment.

Cllr Jane Chitty, Medway Council's economic chief, said she is delighted with progress.

"The Innovation Centre demonstrates the council's firm commitment in encouraging graduates and talented people to stay, work and grow their businesses in Medway,"

The MIC is the first phase of a much larger development to grow a cluster of technology centres in Medway.

Outline planning has already been secured on the next building, a 3000m2 state-of-the-art innovation centre with comprehensive meeting and conference facilities.

A detailed planning application has been submitted and, if successful, work will commence in October 2007 with the new building opening for business late 2008.

It will provide 800 sq m of office space to a technology anchor tenant with a further 48 offices for new and growing technology businesses.
