Medway teen busker thrills crowds in High Street, Sittingbourne, wants to be next Ed Sheeran

Teenager Tyler Watts is learning how to run a business the hard way.

The 13-year-old Medway resident was entertaining shoppers in Sittingbourne High Street on Friday as part of his studies.

The teen is mad on music but his mum and dad, who are currently teaching him at home, insist he must make his hobby pay.

Mum-of-five Sadie , who sings herself under the name of Bex Sades, said: "We are starting him young. Showbusiness can be tough so we are teaching him how to earn money and then plough it back in."

The 33-year-old added: "I think he is amazing to come out and face the community and have the guts to do it at such a young age. He has so much passion for what he does. He has worked really hard. I think he will go quite far."

Dad Kieran, 27, a professional driver, was also on hand to offer moral support.

Tyler said: "One day I picked up a guitar and mum suggested I write a song. Then she suggested I should go busking if I wanted this as a career. I enjoy singing. The money helps to buy strings and equipment."

He started out with an acoustic guitar but has now upped his game to an electric, using his mum's portable PA.

The next stage is to record a demo track to try to get a recording deal.

He has already contacted famed record producer Stuart Epps, who has worked with artistes such as Elton John, Led Zeppelin, Oasis, Mark Owen and Robbie Williams. Part of the money he makes from busking will go towards the cost of that.

Tyler's first few sessions in Chatham raised more than £200 and on Friday, his first trip to Sittingbourne, he collected about £50. He said: "Busking is now my full time job and the only way I can earn money."

The budding entertainer, who also has the support of his nan and grandad, said: "The reaction is mostly happy. Some teenagers take the mickey out of me but I just ignore them. Elderly people seem to really appreciate my music. One lady was crying as she listened to one of my quieter songs."

He says he likes all types but specifically enjoys pop, rock pop and indy pop. His favourite singer at the moment is Ed Sheeran. If he follows in Ed's footsteps, he won't go far wrong.
