A 16-year-old boy has admitted trying to rape a woman in a park.

The teenager, who cannot be identified due to his age, carried out his sex attack in Great Lines Heritage Park, Gillingham, on August 20.

Appearing at Maidstone Crown Court on Tuesday (November 19), he pleaded guilty to one offence of attempted rape.

It was reported at the time that the victim had been walking on a footpath towards Medway Maritime Hospital when the attack happened.

She stopped to sit on a bench and the defendant sat next to her and started talking to her.

He is said to have made verbal threats before pushing her to the floor and attempted to sexually assault her.

Two people then approached and the teenager left the scene heading towards Chatham.

The youth was arrested in the Sheerness area eight days after his victim, who was a stranger to him, had reported being threatened and assaulted in the park.

Judge Julian Smith told him he will be sentenced on February 28 next year.
