Teenagers were spotted throwing fireworks at each other on a busy high street on Halloween.

Police were called to the centre of Gillingham just before 8pm after receiving a number of reports about young people setting of fireworks in the High Street.

It is thought there were between 15 to 20 teenagers involved in the incident and officers broke up the crowd.

A passerby, who did not want to be named, said: "There were teenagers throwing fireworks at each other down the High Street in Gillingham.

"My friends were getting a train to Chatham and someone threw one near their feet."

A police spokesman said: "At 7.54pm on Monday, October 31, Kent Police received the first of a number of reports of young people acting in an antisocial manner and setting off fireworks in High Street, Gillingham.

"Officers attended to disperse the crowd and have been visiting shops in the area today to remind owners of the laws around selling fireworks to under-18s."
