This is how the Rochester Riverside will look like after a £400m regeneration.
Medway Council and the Homes and Community Agency (HCA) have signed a regeneration agreement with Countryside, one of the UK’s leading home builders company and the Hyde Group.
They agreed to build 1,300 homes, including 25% affordable housing and 50% of family sized accommodation. Homes will range from detached riverside houses to one bedroom flats.
There will also be a primary school, leisure and health care facilities, work space, hotels and shops.
Cllr Rodney Chambers, Medway’s Council’s portfolio holder for strategic regeneration, said: “Rochester Riverside is a major part of our ambitious 20-year plan for Medway.”
Countryside and the Hyde Group will be the joint home builders of the project with Hyde taking on the long-term management and maintenance of the affordable homes.
Andy Fancy, from Countryside said: “We are very excited to be involved in the project and are looking forward to regenerating the area.”
David Gannicott, from Hyde, said: “As we enter our 50th birthday year, we want to build as many homes as possible and we are committed to giving people who are left behind by the housing market a roof over their head.”
An exhibition of the draft plans was held last year when people had a chance to have their say.
