A thief who took a wallet from a van parked in a quiet road in Walderslade left a thank you note for the owner.
The wallet, thought to be worth about £50, was taken from a van parked in Abigail Crescent, in Chatham, and whoever took it left a thank you note on the vehicle’s dashboard so the owner could find it when they returned to the van.
The cheeky criminal’s actions were carried out between 11.30pm on Tuesday, November 16 and 8.30am the following day.
The theft was reported to members of Boxley Parish Council when they received details from the area’s PCSO Matt Adlington.
He reported that items were stolen from the van and a note was left on the dashboard with “Thank You” written on it.
The wallet did not contain any cash.
Police said they were investigating the incident but as yet, no one has been arrested in connection with the incident and that several other cars in the area had also had items taken from them between October 27 and November 28.
Members of the parish council have also put a warning on their Facebook page that burglars may be targeting homes in the Lordswood and Walderslade areas on bin collection days.
A warning posted on Tuesday said: “Please be aware. We have received reports that burglars are targeting homes in the Lordswood and Walderslade area on bin days.
“They wait for the refuse trucks to operate in the road so that there is sufficient noise to hide the smash of windows of properties in order to gain entrance.
“Please be vigilant and please inform your neighbours.”
