A motorist has appeared in court accused of causing the death of a Maidstone woman on the M2 by careless driving.

Thomas Molloy, 22, appeared before magistrates in Medway on Monday, after being charged with causing the death of Helen Lucas, pictured.

Ms Lucas was killed on M2 coastbound carriageway close to junction 2 at Strood, on February, 8, this year.

Molloy, of Norah Lane, Higham, is accused of causing Ms Lucas’ death while he was at the wheel of a silver Ford Mondeo, but did not enter a plea in relation to the charge.

His defence team asked for an adjournment in the case as they had not received full disclosure of the evidence.

Magistrates agreed to the adjournment and Molloy, will next appear at the same court on the afternoon of Monday, October 22.

Ms Lucas was killed after getting out of her car after an accident on the motorway at about 7.30pm.

Her Peugeot 207 had hit the central reservation near to the Strood junction.

Ms Lucas, of Douglas Road, Maidstone, was standing by the central reservation when she was hit by the car.

She was pronounced dead at the scene and the cause of her death was recorded as multiple injuries.

Ms Lucas’ family were at court for the short hearing.
